Data privacy @ Hexspoor

Interview with Leonard Kranendonk

Interview with Leonard Kranenbroek, IT Project Manager at Hexspoor E-fulfilment, about data security on Privacy Day.

Today is Privacy Day. What does this day mean to you?

“Not just this particular day, but privacy and data security are topics I deal with on a daily basis as an IT project manager at Hexspoor E-fulfilment. As an e-fulfilment company, data is key for us—without data, we wouldn’t be able to send a single package. Your customers’ data is incredibly valuable, both to you and to hackers. Hexspoor has been aware of this for many years, which is why our IT department has made digital security one of its core priorities.”

Why is it so important to handle data with care?

Leonard explains: “In modern society, address data is increasingly shared for various purposes, such as online purchases. However, this data can be sensitive, and protecting individuals’ privacy is crucial. Address data not only includes physical locations but can also reveal personal details such as someone’s living environment, workplace, or family situation. That’s why it is essential for Hexspoor to handle this data with great care to prevent misuse. In fact, you could say that privacy is more important than ever.”

What does Hexspoor do to prevent data from falling into the wrong hands?

Leonard: “Security and privacy have many technical aspects, such as security updates, firewalls, and encrypted communication, but they are also heavily dependent on procedures and human actions. At Hexspoor, we ensure that we do not store customer data longer than necessary and only in locations where it is needed. For example, we implement dual-layer security between the application being used and the data itself. Our Customer Portal, for instance, provides our clients with all the necessary customer data while the application itself does not store any data. And if data needs to be retained for a longer period, we anonymize data according to specific timelines. Additionally, we strengthen ‘human awareness’ by ensuring our employees remain alert and conscious of the data they use and process.”

What can clients do to help with data security?

“Absolutely, we always emphasize to our clients the importance of being cautious. For instance, it is not advisable to send address files via email without encryption. That’s why, at Hexspoor, clients have the option to upload files to our digital drive via a secure connection and a personal login. This ensures that data is transferred directly from the client’s computer to our internal server without any risky intermediaries.”

“Together with our clients, we strive to safeguard the privacy of their customers!”
